Upgrading from 0.5

Version 1.0 changes how saving works. Because of that, a project from 0.5 needs a few one-time fixes.

  • Odin Serializer is gone. Narramancer has its own serializer and no longer ships a copy of Odin Serializer. Delete any leftover OdinSerializer folder. The “.NET 4.x” Player Setting is no longer required.
  • Old save files can’t be loaded. The save format changed, and a 0.5 save is rejected with a message, not misread.
  • Unity 6 is required. 1.0 is built and tested on Unity 6.
  • The Serialize… components were replaced by Saveable. Scenes that used them will show missing script warnings where they were.

For each object with a missing script warning, remove the missing component, add a Saveable, and tick the matching toggle:

0.5 component 1.0 equivalent
SerializeTransform Saveable → Transform
SerializeRectTransform Saveable → Rect Transform
SerializeActive Saveable → Active state
SerializeImage Saveable → Image
SerializeSpriteRenderer Saveable → Sprite Renderer
SerializeText Saveable → Text
SerializeAudioSource Saveable → Audio Source
SerializeAnimation Saveable → Animation
[SerializeMonoBehaviourField] [Save]
SerializeNounInstanceReference Unchanged
  1. Back up your project, or commit it.

  2. Delete any leftover OdinSerializer folder.

  3. Import Narramancer 1.0 from My Assets in the Package Manager.

  4. Replace the Serialize… components with Saveable, using the table above.

  5. Run Window → Narramancer → Add Missing Saveables on your scenes and prefabs, so every object something points at has a permanent id.

  6. Make a build, then save, quit, relaunch and load, to check that everything you expect comes back.

  • You no longer need to add a component to an object before moving or animating it from a node. The nodes set that up themselves.
  • Objects that start inactive are now saved like any other.
  • Inequality node: the 0.5 options “Greater Than” and “Less Than” actually tested ≥ and ≤. They’re now labelled Greater Than Or Equal To and Less Than Or Equal To, so existing graphs behave exactly as before. Strict Greater Than and Less Than options were added.
  • Graph editor toolbar: Back, Recent, Find Verb, Add Node, Frame, Collapse, New Child Verb and More. See Verb Editor.
  • Movement resumes after a load. A character saved mid-walk finishes the walk.

Narramancer is source-available. It's free for noncommercial use underPolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0, and commercial use needs an Asset Store license.Source on GitHub.
